Inverse Analysis

Analysis of observed CO2 concentrations provides additional information about the global spatial, and seasonal to interannual temporal distribution of its sources and sinks. Combining CO2 measurements with its likely transport can provide an estimate of regional sources/sinks and their uncertainty. However, the sparse observation network presents an incomplete picture of the true spatial and temporal patterns. Thus, ACE is adding more observations in the globally under-represented regions of Africa.
