This directory contains an installation file that can be used to install the CENTURY files used by investigators in the U.S. Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) to study soil carbon on Mississippi hillslopes. This study is a part of the U.S.G.S. Carbon Cycle Research under Mississippi Basin Carbon Project (MBCP). Several Open-file documents and web pages are available for more information about this project and related material:
The install utility will copy a full set of the files used into a directory. It must be downloaded using binary transfer. To run the install program double-click on the centmiss.exe filename in Windows Explorer or use the Start | Run option on the Windows 95 Start menu by selecting the Browse button to locate the centmiss.exe file that you have downloaded. All of the files used for this project will be installed on your computer. The version of CENTURY you will download must be run under Windows 95. The files that will be installed are:
century.exe The version of the CENTURY executable used for this project
event100.exe The version of the event scheduler executable used for this project
file100.exe The version of the parameter file utility used for this project
list100.exeThe version of the executable that converts binary to ASCII output
Nfwth2.prn The weather file used by CENTURY for the Nelson Farm (agriculture) runs
GCwth.prn The weather file used by CENTURY for the Goodwin Creek (control) runs Msno.sch The schedule file used for the no erosion scenario at Nelson Farm (agriculture) site
Msmin.sch The schedule file used for the minimum erosion scenario at Nelson Farm (agriculture) site
Msmax.sch The schedule file used for the maximum erosion scenario at Nelson Farm (agriculture) site
Goodmin.sch The schedule file used for the minimum erosion scenario at Goodwin Creek (control) site
Goodmax.sch The schedule file used for the maximum erosion scenario at Goodwin Creek (control) site
.100 files These are the files that parameterize the effects of different crops, cultivation, etc. for CENTURY. Two of these files, Nelson.100 and GoodCr.100, give site specific parameters for the two locations being modeled. The fix.100 file is also site specific. The file labeled NFfix.100 is parameterized for Nelson Farm, while the GCfix.100 is parameterized for Goodwin Creek. Before doing a CENTURY run the appropriate fix file would need to be renamed fix.100 for the run to be successful. Parameters within other .100 files (e.g., cult.100) may have been changed from the default values, so it is important to use the copies provided.
.def files These files define the different parameters within each .100 file. They are not necessary to run CENTURY, but are needed to run list.exe
