Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: comap_v6_Final_public
Abstract:
Colorado Ownership, Management and Protection is a comprehensive dataset of land ownership and management. This version contains data from Federal agencies, State agencies, The Nature Conservancy, city and county sources and land trust sources. Data was collected from multiple sources and processed into one complete layer. Note that conservation easements on privately owned land have been removed from this public dataset.

COMaP Data Disclaimer June 19, 2006:

Data Set Credit: The Colorado Ownership and Management and Protection (COMaP) dataset is a compilation of many disparate spatial datasets from around Colorado. Current contributors to the project include: US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, Colorado State Parks, Colorado State Land Board, Colorado Division of Wildlife, and The Nature Conservancy. Contributions from these agencies and groups have been essential to the success of this project.

Access Constraints: Users are expressly prohibited from redistributing this dataset. All requests for the dataset should be sent to comap@nrel.colostate.edu. This allows us to maintain a distribution list so that we can efficiently notify users of updates and changes, and we are required to limit redistribution per our agreement with some of our primary data providers. Although the majority of the COMaP dataset shows publicly-owned lands, there are also inputs regarding conservation on privately-owned lands.

There are two versions of COMaP, one which shows only publicly-owned lands, which is named with the suffix: *_public.mdb. Another version also includes some protected areas on privately-owned lands, which is named *_private.mdb. Only COMaP collaborators will have access to the dataset with privately-owned lands. COMaP collaborators are those partners who are actively providing primary data used in COMaP.

Use Constraints: Users need to be aware that multiple datasets from multiple agencies were used to create COMaP. These input datasets have a range of publication dates, varying degrees of accuracy, various projections, and different attribute information. We have made every effort to standardize the multiple data inputs to create COMaP. We do not provide the original datasets from our primary data source providers.

Reproduction or redistribution of copyrighted digital data sets or products derived therefrom outside of licensees' organization or entity is expressly forbidden. The only exception is redistribution to consultants working for the licensee, and then only for purposes related to work for the licensee. Such consultants may not further reproduce or redistribute these data sets. None of these data shall be electronically duplicated on magnetic or optical media for use by others, in whole or in part, without permission of the appropriate staff at the Natural Resource Ecology Lab at Colorado State University. Use of these data for commercial purposes is expressly prohibited.

Any hardcopies utilizing these data sets shall clearly indicate their source (i.e. COMaP vXX). If the licensee has modified the data in any way they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed on the hardcopy map. Licensee specifically agrees not to misrepresent these data sets, nor to imply that changes they made were approved by the NREL.

The NREL is in no way condoning or endorsing the application of this data for any given purpose. It is the sole responsibility of the user to determine whether or not the data is suitable for the intended purpose. The NREL provides no warranty, nor accepts any liability occurring from any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading data, or from any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading use of this data.

Any maps or derived products need to designate the various levels of public access. This must be done using map symbology and/or a printed statement on the map that public access is not allowed, unless expressly noted otherwise.

This data is based on and maintained with ArcGIS software developed by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Much of the information presented uses conventions and terms popularized by ArcGIS and its user community. The NREL in no way represents the interests of ESRI, nor acts as an agent for them.

Distribution Liability: The Natural Resource Ecology Lab (NREL) at Colorado State University makes no guarantee or warranty concerning the accuracy of information contained in the geographic data. NREL further makes no warranties, either expressed or implied as to any other matter whatsoever, including, without limitation, the condition of the product, or its fitness for any particular purpose. The burden for determining fitness for use lies entirely with the user. Although these data have been processed successfully on computers of NREL, no warranty, expressed or implied, is made by NREL regarding the use of these data on any other system, nor does the fact of distribution constitute or imply any such warranty.

In no event shall the NREL have any liability whatsoever for payment of any consequential, incidental, indirect, special, or tort damages of any kind, including, but not limited to, any loss of profits arising out of use of or reliance on the geographic data or arising out of the delivery, installation, operation, or support by NREL.
