Stephen M. Ogle, M.S., Ph.D.
Research Scientist II
Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory
Colorado State University
Dr. Ogle is an ecosystem research scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory of Colorado State University. His research focuses primarily on topics related to land use and management and its impacts on C and N dynamics. Currently, he is principal investigator on the agricultural soil C and N2O assessments, which are part of the U.S. inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. This inventory is used for national reporting purposes and to inform public policy. Dr. Ogle has worked on syntheses and reports through the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, including lead author on the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories and IPCC Fourth Assessment Report on Mitigation (Agriculture).

He has led the effort to develop a national greenhouse gas inventory software program as part of the capacity-building project for countries in Central America . This software is designed to guide compilers through the inventory process, and was developed based on the IPCC Guidelines and insights from Dr. Ogle’s experience conducting inventories for the US . Overall, his efforts and collaborations with other leaders in the field have contributed to a better understanding of how to apply basic science in relevant ways for addressing critical policy issues, particularly those related to climate change.
