How to get
to Giessen and Rauischholzhausen
Giessen is about 60 km north of Frankfurt.
If you travel by train your destination should be
GIESSEN (from the North via Kassel, from the South

airport to Giessen
Go to Terminal 1 lower level B (arrivals = Ankunft).
If you arrive at Terminal 2 please take the Sky-Line-Shuttle
to Terminal 1. If you have a "Fly and Rail Ticket" you
don't need an extra ticket for the train. If not,
you have to get a ticket from the ticket machine
(Automat-see #2) or from the DB Travel-Center (personal
service). Your destination is GIESSEN. If you don't
have any German money get it at this level at one
of the Change Bureaus (Geldwechsel).
Take the escalator down to the next level (DB);
here you will find the Automat for a ticket.
Go to GLEIS 1 (Platform 1); the trains come every
15 to 20 minutes. Then you take the underground on
platform 1 (for example line 8 (S8), direction Hanau
or Offenbach) to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station).
At Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) you have to change
trains. This will be the third stop.
Follow the crowd up two flights of stairs to the
main train station. Follow the sign ”Fernzüge” to
reach the platforms, where the trains leave to Giessen.
Look at one of the posted boards for departures
(Abfahrt) for a train to Giessen (direction Kassel).
Trains are relatively frequent during commuter times.
A fast one (RE or IR) will only stop in Friedberg
and then Giessen. The ride will be approximately

3. Train/bus connection from Giessen
If you want to travel from Giessen to the castle in
Rauischholzhausen you first take the train from Giessen
to Marburg (direction Kassel, see above). You can take
with RE or IC (see above). Between Marburg and the
castle in Rauischholzhausen there will be a shuttle
bus service provided by Dr. Wolters' group from the
University. The shuttle will be pre-arranged according
to the travel itinerary you submit to Holley
Zadeh. The duration of this journey will be about
For your return journey you take the train in Marburg
back to Giessen (or Frankfurt, it is the same direction).
Getting to Rauischholzhausen
From Giessen: take the B3 to Marburg and leave
at the exit for Ebsdorfer Grund in the direction of
Kirchhain. The road leads you through Rauischholzhausen,
where you will see signs directing you to the castle.
From Marburg: take the road through the Lahn
hills via the villages of Schröck and Roßdorf

You will meet Joerg or Matthieu (from Volkmar's lab) at 21:15 on 27 March
at the MEETING POINT of terminal 1, hall B, level 1(Arrivals). Follow
the signs to get there.
Once you have reached the Giessen railway station on 27 March, please
call Joerg on the mobile phone at (0173-7087974) or on the lab phone
(0641-9935716) and he will pick you up and take you to the hotel.
Please take the train all the way to Marburg and call Joerg‚s mobile
(0173-7087974) once you arrive. We will pick you up on the way to the

prior to the start of the workshop.

Holley will make ALL hotel reservations for the Hotel
am Ludwigsplatz in Giessen. Once you have your
itinerary, please forward it to her and she will reserve
a spot for you and help you set up transportation from
the train station to the hotel.
Information about the Rauischholzhausen Castle
The workshop will be held at the Rauischholzhausen
Castle near Frankfurt, Germany.
Monday to Thursday: 24€ per overnight stay
Friday to Sunday : 26€ per overnight stay

Documents / Info required for reimbursements after the

of travel, stay, etc., as our accounting office must
see proof of the use of good or service (i.e. a receipt
or ticket stub) in order to issue a reimbursement
check. A travel itinerary is not acceptable.
