I plan to accept applicants for four weeks and would like to have a student begin as a research associate as soon as possible thereafter. This will allow the student to be well along in the research by the time classes start. If you have not included a CV and list of references (3 references), please do so ASAP. Included with your application materials should be a letter of intention describing why you are interested in a PhD-assistantship and, more pecifically, in the project on which you might be a PhD-assistant; also indicate why you think you are qualified for this position. If you have taken the GRE and/or TOEFL test, please include your scores in their CV. American students should also indicate their GPA.
Requirements for entry:Colorado State requirements: The PhD-candidate can chose to get his/her degree from the Rangeland and Ecosystem Science Department or from the Graduate Degree Program of Ecology (GDPE). The requirements for entry differ little between the two programs, but should be checked out. These requirements are outlined on the respective homepages of the two programs. In addition, the Graduate School of Colorado State University has specific requirements. The web addresses are:
a) GDPE b) Rangeland and Ecosystem Ecology c) Graduate College d) Prospective StudentsNREL-requirements: To be accepted in NREL, the candidate needs to comply with the requirements of the Graduate School and the chosen department. Graduate student information can also be found at: http://www.nrel.colostate.edu/.
Starting date:
I would really prefer if the student could start in early 2001. As mentioned above, I envision the possibility of a starting date of Februaryy 2001 at NREL as a research associate to begin research with enrolment in classes in August 2001. This will enable students that seem qualified for the position but that have not yet taken the GRE and/or TOEFL test to start their research, take the tests, and then enroll in classes.
Compensation:The stipend for the student will be approximately $15600/year plus tuition.
