Yvonne Baskin, a 2003- 2004 member of the Antarctic Artist and Writer Program, finished her book, titled ‘Underground’ (Island Press), and has the first chapter about the science of the Wall – Virginia team.

Holley Zadeh, CSU, gave a talk to 12 second and third grade students at Stove Prairie Elementary School about research and life in the Antarctic.

John Chaston, an undergraduate student at BYU, described his Antarctic internship experience in the BY University newsletter.

Byron Adams, BYU, gave three presentations to 35 kindergarten and 28 second-grade students at Salem Elementary School in Provo UT entitled “Hot research in a cold climate” about Antarctic ecology.

The MCM Long Term experiment on the south side of Lake Hoare is part of the international Long Term Soil Experiment whose purpose is multi purpose: to understand how soils affect global environmental change, and how Earth’s soils change over time scales of years to many decades.

Synthesis of Soil Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning in Victoria Land, Antarctica: An NSF Sponsored Workshop was held April 21-23, 2005: Jekyll Island, GA (click here for website). This was funded by another OPP grant to Wall. This was the first ever conference to discuss current state of knowledge and future directions of research in Victoria Land. Results will be a special volume of Soil Biology and Biochemistry.
